Although we celebrate lions every day, World Lion Day is when the entire world acknowledges the importance of lions and their role in Africa’s rich ecosystems.

In honor of this special day, the LRF has released its latest progress report, which focuses on projects that we are supporting which are aimed at protecting Africa’s wildest places. There are certain landscapes in Africa that have remained extremely wild and remote, some of which have lacked significant conservation investment until very recently. Fortunately, lions and other wildlife have managed to hang on. These areas are home to incredible biodiversity and have amazing potential for lion recovery.

A number of dedicated conservation organizations are rising to the challenge of securing these wild landscapes for lions and other wildlife, and the LRF is proud to support their work. This report highlights efforts to support lion conservation across the Central African Republic (CAR), South Sudan, northern Mozambique, and southern Tanzania, with a special focus on protecting lions in CAR’s expansive Chinko Conservation Area, which has perhaps the greatest potential for lion recovery of any area in Africa.

Read the latest LRF progress report to learn more, and thank you for your continued support of our mission to save lions. Happy World Lion Day!
